Q) Can I bring my dog on Canada Day?

A) Unfortunately not. Dogs are prohibited on Petrie Island whether they are leashed or not. If you try to bring your dog on the island you maybe fined.


Q) Will bikes be allowed on Petrie Island?

A) Absolutely, in fact, there are a number of areas where cyclist can safely lock up their bikes..

Q) Can I park on Petrie Island?

A) Parking on Petrie Island during Canada Day will be restricted to pass holders only and handicapped vehicles. Parking is available in the OC Transpo Park and Ride lot on Trim Road and the Taylor Creek Business Park..

Q) Will there be handicap parking on the island?

A) Handicap parking will be available on site.

Q) Is O.C. Transpo providing service from Place d'Orléans?

A) Yes, OC Transpo service will be provided from Place d'Orléans to the Trim Road Park and Ride every 15 minutes starting at 9:46 a.m. The last bus is scheduled to leave the Park and Ride lot at 12:30 a.m.

Q) How do we get from the parking areas to the Canada Day site?

A) Tractor drawn hay wagons similar to the ones used at the 2001 International Plowing Match in Navan will be used to shuttle people from the parking areas to the Petrie Island. However, they will run between 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. only There will be no shuttle service from the the site to the parking areas (a distance of approximately 1.2 kilometres) from one hour before the fireworks onwards due to safety concerns. Because of the amount of people expected for the fireworks and limited space along the causeway leading to the island it would be unsafe and impractical to operate shuttles in and among the pedestrians.

Q) Can I bring my own alcohol onto the site?

A) NO! Because Petrie Island is a city park, the consumption of alcohol in public is strictly prohibited and the authorities will be exercising a zero tolerance policy. Anyone found consuming alcohol in public will be fined.

Q) Will the City's new smoking ban be enforced?

A) Yes! Bylaw officers will be patroling the island throughout the day.

Q) What should I bring with me if I'm going to Petrie Island on Canada Day?

A) It is advised that patrons bring a hat and plenty of sunscreen. Chairs and coolers will also be allowed on site as well as sun umbrellas.

Q) Is there any supervised swimming at Petrie Island?

A) Yes, a full compliment of lifeguards will be on duty on Canada Day.
